The Milan Design Week is one of the most important events in the design industry, attracting designers, architects, and enthusiasts from all over the world. It provides a platform for emerging and established designers to showcase their work, network with industry professionals, and gain recognition.

The Milan Design Week was not born as a trade fair event; it spontaneously originated in the early 1980s by companies operating in the furniture and industrial design sector. Even today, individual promoters organize themselves independently to create a large collective event that takes place during the month of April (this year, the event will be held from April 17th to April 23th), coinciding with the Salone Internazionale del Mobile of Milano.

Events are mainly located in the showrooms of participating companies, which are scattered throughout the city. However, there are some districts in Milan, like Brera, that have taken on a leading role in the history of the Fuori Salone, becoming true icons. Over time, entire areas have been dedicated to temporary exhibitions during the design week, often in disused former industrial areas that companies take over for that period in order to create great points of interest, rich not only in exhibitions of various products, but also in performances and works of various kinds.

In addition to the characteristic districts, exceptional events are also organized in various other parts of the metropolis, which vary from year to year, extending the culture of design to all the neighborhoods of Milan. One of the highlights of the MDW is the Salone del Mobile, which is a furniture fair that showcases the latest products and trends in the furniture industry.

The fair features over 2,000 exhibitors from around the world and attracts over 370,000 visitors each year. Another important event is the Fuorisalone, which is a series of events that take place throughout the city in various districts. There are also several other events that take place during the Milan Design Week that are worth attending.

The Brera Design District is a popular destination for design enthusiasts, featuring exhibitions and installations by some of the most innovative and creative designers in the industry. The Ventura Future exhibition showcases the latest trends and innovations in design, and the SuperDesign Show features unique and experimental projects.

As always, the city will look at initiatives capable of promoting Made in Italy internationally, enhancing emerging talents, looking at the development of urban spaces and narrating technological and digital innovation. But particular attention will also and above all be given to the proposals that will adopt circular and sustainable solutions for the creation, reuse or recycling of the installations.
